A lot of people are facing a problem to build muscle. You go to gym regularly, you are doing great exercises, putting a lot of tension on your muscle, following a great nutrition plan, but you don't feel that you are building muscles.

When we control how you are performing your exercises, we will notice that there's something wrong about the way you are doing them.

Whether you are doing dumbbell biceps curls or squats, we will notice that you are following a wrong tempo. By wrong we mean a rapid tempo.

Doing your reps too fast up and down won't give enough time to your muscle to build up correctly! Actually you won't even feel the soreness of the exercise.

How My Exercise Should Be Done?

If we count how much time you are taking to do 10 reps of an exercise, we will find that it's about 20 to 30 seconds! While what your muscle is in need of is between 40 to 60 seconds to benefit from the exercise and build muscle blocs.

How to Perform the 40 to 60 Seconds Exercise?

If you use to make 10 reps per 30 seconds, increasing the time to 40 or 60 seconds doesn't mean you have to make 20 reps!

As we said before it's all about the tempo, you need to perform the same 10 reps in 40 seconds.

For the dumbbell biceps curls, it means you will need to perform a rep in 4 seconds. 2 seconds up and 2 seconds down.

Lift the dumbbell slowly in 2 seconds breathing smoothly, and take it down slowing in 2 seconds.


The same thing goes for any other exercise. Always control your tempo, take your time and breath smoothly. 

You will feel the soreness in the targeted muscle very fast. That's a good sign of an exercise done the right way.
